FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE SCAN Medical Launches EASYGLIDE and FLEXIMOVE - New Manual Transfer Products that Protect Your Back and Sacro Area. Medford, MA, May 6, 1998 SCAN Medical introduces EASYGLIDE and FLEXIMOVE, products designed to increase an individual’s independence and safety in manual moves and transfers. They also protect a caregiver by reducing the risk of back and muscle strain. EASYGLIDE is an innovative sliding transfer board designed by Scandinavian occupational and physical therapists. Wider than a standard sliding board, it is the only transfer board that flexes up to cover the wheelchair tire. User is protected from scraping the gluteal/sacral region during transfers and avoids tipping forward when sliding over the wheelchair tire. EASYGLIDE also enables a smooth transfer to uneven surfaces due to the excellent surface contact with minimal board movement; particularly helpful for transfers onto hard plastics such as a commode or bath bench. Kevin Moran, a triplegic of San Bruno, CA. explains, "I have relied on other’s assistance for my transfers since my accident 15 years ago. With the EASYGLIDE, I am able to transfer from my bed to my wheelchair and back without the help of another person." After transfer, board is easily removed. User pulls the flexible board towards herself using the hand cutouts, verses having to push it away like standard boards. Retails for under $100. Available in two sizes: 24" x 13" and 30" x 13". FLEXIMOVE is a new simple lift and move accessory. The 20" x 8" pad is used primarily for lifting or helping individuals in and out of bed, moving up in a bed or lifting them from one location to another. The two sets of hand-grips at either end allow the care assistant to vary the grip for optimal working position. The red surface against the patient is a unique friction material that assists in maintaining a firm and safe grip. Suggested retail: $72.95. The devices were developed to provide comfortable and safe patient transfer, while decreasing undue muscle and back strain on caregivers. Urban Erson, physical therapist and instructor (University Hospital in Uppsala, Sweden) comments, "The transfer devices made a significant change in transfer protocol in Scandinavia. Their use directly impacted a decrease in caregiver stress and strain, and improved patient control." SCAN Medical is the U.S. distributor for this line of manual transfer devices.
