FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Swedish made Manual Lift and Move Devices That Will Save Many Caregivers/Assistants From Injuring Their Backs. Medford, MA, September 5, 1998 SCAN Medical introduces two new manual Patient/Assist devices, MAXIMOVE and MINISTRETCHER, products designed to assist caregivers/assistants in their task of moving, repositioning and lifting patients/family members. These devices have been developed by Swedish emergency technicians to reduce the amount of back injuries that professional caregivers/assistants face routinely in their day to day activities. It is a known fact that many professional facilities have made considerable capital investments during the last five years to implement mechanical and other electrical lifting procedures to combat back injuries. The amount of lower back injuries among field professionals is larger than any other medical groups due to uncomfortable working positions and lack of adequate devices. These injuries are the most expensive in terms of workers compensation claims and they account for a high percentage of lost work time. Manual transfer devices have experienced a renaissance due to new materials, advanced designs and the ease of use and portability in professional and home care environments. Two of the new devices used throughout a variety of care settings are MAXIMOVE and MINISTRETCHER. MAXIMOVE is available in two sizes: 17" x 39" with 4 handles; 17" x 58" with 6 handles. MINISTRETCHER measures 17" x 50" with 4 handles, including head support. The devices are lightweight, flexible, strong, padded and comfortable both to patient and caregiver/handler. Weight limit is 400 lbs. The products have a 2-year warranty. Tests are currently being conducted by several emergency medical crews. Preliminary response indicates that the devices are contributing to facilitate the caregivers/assistants task of moving, transferring and lifting patients in a much more comfortable way, both to the patient and themselves, thus contributing to reduce costly back injuries.
