Letter from the President:
Greetings! As we brought in the New Year, we were reminded that we are one year older, but hopefully one year wiser too!
I trust this year will bring you all good health and prosperity as we move into the new
millennium.
This is the second edition of our on-line newsletter. I hope you enjoyed the last one and will find useful information in this issue as well.
It is my goal to provide material that will guide you to better living, with SCAN Medical products.
So, with our second newsletter I would like to invite you to read through these pages, I hope you'll find something that will add to your day.
In particular, those who are caring for someone who relies on you for their transferring needs.
Also, take time to read through the rest of the Web site and tell me how I can better serve you.
Let me know what I can do to improve this site to better meet your needs. You may contact me at

SCAN Medical's Featured Product:
SAFETY SURE TRANSFER PIVOT DISC
"The products are ultra efficient, simple and effective."
Glenn G. Reynolds,
M.D., F.A.A.P.M.&R,
Battle Ground, WA
The Pivot Disc, by SCAN Medical, is designed to assist a person to transfer from a sitting or standing position to another sitting or standing position.
It can be used to move from chair to wheelchair, wheelchair to bed, wheelchair to commode, etc.
The Pivot Disc can be used both assisted and/or unassisted. A mobility impaired with upper body functions in place (arms) can move himself from wheelchair to bed, wheelchair to commode, wheelchair to car or back without assistance of a care provider.
For the mobility impaired who does not have upper body functions in place the Pivot Disc is of great help to the care provider to make the transfer easier and more comfortable on the patient and to diminish the risk of injury both to the patient and the care provider.
The Pivot disc can also be used as a swivel seat on solid or semi solid surfaces.
The Pivot Disc has been tested for loads in excess of 1400 lbs (concrete bags) and is warranted for weights up to 600 lbs.
As for all products in our catalog there is a 30-day "no questions asked return policy" and
a 2-year warranty.
The Pivot Disc is made of three high quality polymer plastic plates; one turning on top of the other.
It is equipped with anti-skid (non-slip) tape on both sides to prevent slipping on the floor while a person is placing their weight on it.
In addition, the Pivot Disc provides a footplate for the care provider to place their own body weight to ensure the transfer happens safely and comfortably without the worry of either of them falling.
The Pivot Disc is made of lightweight materials that make it easy to transport.
Its convenient grip handle make it very easy to hold and put away for storage.
Here is what one of our customers had to say about SCAN Medical's Products:
"The materials chosen for your products, both fabric and firm surface, have the lowest coefficient of friction on any transfer materials for patients that I have observed in my 42 years of practice in the field of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, and my own paraplegic disability experience throughout that time.
This has permitted minimal energy expenditure, and a high degree of mechanical advantage by the patient in the transfer and movement process.
In addition where staff assistance has been required or desired, it has diminished the effort of these personnel, and reduced the hazard of back and other musculo-ligamentous strains.
The products are ultra efficient, simple and effective."
